Weekend respite from the haze!
The #sghaze consumed Singapore last week, and left us all contemplating our own mortality. Everyone scrambled for masks, and we've allegedly wiped out most of the developed world's retail stock (even in Italy, wtf?). On my part, I wasn't one of the privileged few with access to N95 masks, and thanks to the kiasuism deeply ingrained in the local community, I was unable to get my hands on any.
More accurately, I would really rather inhale some dust (it's like standing near a temple furnace, no? I tell myself it's how the hallowed monks and nuns at Taoist and Buddhist temples live, and by association, this similar experience somehow makes me more divine.) for 20 minutes each day, than queue for hours at Watsons/Guardian for overpriced masks. $56, wtf? I bought mine off Amazon for about SGD20/box..including shipping. But then again.. everything in Singapore's marked up.
Note: With respect to the news of masks being sold at grossly inflated prices - I've seen the pictures, and it's important to note that not all N95 masks were created the same - the ones that look like duck beaks cost a little more, and even the ones that look like bowls are priced differently for different model numbers..... The people selling masks outside train stations look like they're selling the more expensive "duck-beaked" ones.
Lucky for us though - the winds decided to blow another way, and our precious weekends were left relatively unscathed. I think we're truly, truly blessed.
My mom decided to make dinner for the family - we ate in on a weekend for the first time in years because we anticipated unhealthy conditions outside; the end result was we had some family friends over (Uncle Ronnie + Auntie June, who've had the dubious honour of meeting and accepting all the Cheong Family kids' Other Halves, no matter how strange or unexpected. Our own relatives don't even get this). Also X's usual hockey game was cancelled, and he took that as sign that he should upgrade his tank! And hence we found ourselves driving to Seletar to pick up the new tank essentials :) Brought my Nikon out because a few good conversations over the week renewed my interest in pretty photos ;)
Oh and also, we broke the bed again. 2 beds in 3 years. This time I wasn't even ON it. Uncle Ronnie had just arrived, and I was rushing X to get off the iPad so we could go down for drinks... and then the bed collapsed on my foot. Thank goodness it was just a partial collapse; I'm not sure I would've gotten away with a full collapse without a fracture.
