Sun Ray Cafe
After getting turned down by 2 supposedly pet friendly places (more on that later), I chanced upon Sun Ray Cafe (sounds like a name for a rehab facility, no? or have I just been watching too much Breaking Bad?). Sun Ray Cafe's website's quite static, and very unlike the place itself. With soft, warm lighting, wooden tables, and upholstered chairs and even some decoration + literature lying around, this was a place for humans to relax with their dogs. Not for dogs to have fun, while their humans perch awkwardly on backless stools and marinate in the stench of the thousand dogs that have previously been there. Dogs are your companions; you're not their slave.
Not that Pringles didn't have an amazing time - we were in pretty late; about ten? So it was just us, and Sun Ray's Coffee Connisseur (a guy with such impressive knowledge about coffee, I'm sure he could've written a thesis about it), and another couple. All of whom lavished much attention on him. Plus our dear little sniffer got high on the scents of all the dogs that had previously been there.
Was slightly apprehensive about the food because of the mediocre reviews, but can I just say that the food ended up being almost perfect? The escargots arrived deliciously marinated in parsley, butter and .. green stuff - they usually come too hard.. or worse; in their shells. To consume one of these escargots was to suck on the little morsel of buttery, garlicky(?) slimy goodness, extract all the juice out with your tongue, and let it slide down your throat. Like oysters, but warm! :)
The lamb rack was abso-fucking-lutely delectable, and unlike the usual rubber variety that we get, this one also arrived succulent, and flavorful (but Pringles' human believes it could've been better marinated), and on a bed of simple, but satisfying ratatouille. Look at Pringles' face. He wants some.
He's a happy dog ;) YES WE WILL BE BACK
Next time, we intend to try the truffle fries, and more!
NOW. On the two that turned us down...
GRUB.. Why are you in Bishan Park if you aren't legally prepared to accept dogs? And also, an unpinned Facebook post is not a sufficient announcement about the change in your policy. I had to scroll down all the way to July's posts to find the announcement. Your Search Engine results are still optimized to show pet-friendly. I even visited your website to check if you did not accept dogs anymore. No info on that policy change. I did all that I reasonably could to check if you accepted dogs. And your folks could do better than to look at our panting retriever with ill-veiled revulsion. And waitress, the dog is with its healthy looking humans - it's clearly fine. And it won't lunge unless you do something crazy. Stop looking at it like it's a walking repository of infectious germs. Time to train Pringles to look abit crazy; just to scare ignorant people.
Paw Petradise/Pet Pawradise.. not sure what their name really is - Okay so this problem has been rectified - we visited without calling in advance, only to find that they were closed for an event. No notice on their Facebook page - but they've since improved, and DO post notifications now, when they're going to be closed.
Anyway, have you met Pringles? He's our rescued/adopted Goldie! A true family dog, he goes around spreading his attention, and is happiest when everyone's together (possibly because he won't have to get up and change person). Ever since acquiring him, we've gone on crazy walks, and rediscovered Singapore's.. greenery. We've also pretty much shunned shopping centres. And have I mentioned that he doesn't bark? I LIKE!
I'm quite focused on making sure he's exposed to as many places/people as possible, in the hopes that if he ever runs away, he won't go apeshit crazy and become violent.. and will at least charm someone into calling his humans - their numbers are behind his tag.
But I do draw the line at going to uncomfortable, smelly places... just for the dog. Thank goodness for Sun Ray Cafe.
